ACT Community Sector NAIDOC WEEK

Woden Arts is part of the The ACT Community Sector, and we invite you to join us at our eighth annual NAIDOC Week Event, celebrating the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
After a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, we will open the event with an address by Minister Rachael Stephen-Smith.
Throughout the day there will be:
- Music performances
- Children’s activities
- Art workshops
- Yarning circles
- Stalls and food.

WODEN ARTS WORKSHOP : MARAMALDANHA YADHARR GURAYN: MAKING FEATHER FLOWERS
Date: Tuesday 5th of July
First workshop: 12.15PM – to 12.55PM (40 Minutes)
Second workshop: 1.05PM -1.45PM (40 Minutes)
Location: Woden Town Square and Woden Library
You are invited to the Maramaldanha Yadharr Gurayn: Introduction to Feather Flower workshop with Sarah Loynes, a Gamilaroi Yularoi artist and consultant.
These free workshops at the Woden library will be capped at 12 people per workshop. Please bring your own collection of feathers and fibres to incorporate with materials supplied to create a unique feather flower.
Please note we will not be using natural fibres or feathers from Gamilaroi/ Yularoi Country- instead we will use what we consider to be contemporary materials that have become ‘woven’ into our lives as Gamilaroi Yularoi yinarr.
Participants will share through Gamilaroi Yularoi winangay (story) and maramali (making with hands.) They will be introduced to yinarr winangay (women’s knowledge) of yadharr gurayn (feather flowers) to make and practice feather flower making using contemporary materials.
All materials are supplied.
